Trump Eyes Canada Defense Gaps Amid Arctic Push
The U.S. Army has been consistently revamping its forces in Alaska to better prepare for future cold-weather conflicts. Larger, heavily equipped brigades are being replaced with more mobile infantry units better suited for the frigid fight, according to Army leaders. (AP)
President Donald Trump has privately intensified his focus on Canada’s Arctic defenses, pressing aides on what he views as Ottawa’s vulnerability to Russia and China and urging higher Canadian defense spending, as the White House accelerates a wider Arctic strategy that is also fueling a showdown with European allies over Greenland.
