Friday, 17 September 2010 03:20 PM EDT

Billionaire real estate investor Sam Zell said the U.S. economy will continue to improve and that high-quality property is “intrinsically valuable.”

Zell is focused on distressed debt investing in the U.S., he said today at the BMO Capital Markets real estate conference in Chicago. He has invested in hotel mortgages and a broken condo deal, he said.

The billionaire, whose firm Equity International is investing in Brazilian real estate, said Colombia may be the “next best” Latin American market.
