Sears and Kmart reportedly plan to continue shutting stores, with an additional 100 locations set to close by the end of the year.
Liquidation sales for some of the stores are set to begin mid-September.
The announcement comes after the early August news that the struggling retailer will shut 21 Sears and five Kmart locations in late October,
While company officials did not release an official list of the locations closing, news outlets across the nation reported this week about some of the closings and lists were posted on sites including www.thelayoff.com, USA Today reported.
"After careful review, we have made the difficult decision to close the Kmart stores in Wayne, Trenton, Wall and Somers Point," TransformCo. said in a statement sent to Asbury Park Press, part of the USA Today Network, about four New Jersey closures. "We encourage customers to continue shopping on Kmart.com for all their product needs.”
Liquidation sales are expected to begin in mid-September.
Store locations across the country will be closed, from Florida to California, the International Business Times reported.
The once-dominant chain, which has already closed more than 100 locations, is trying to rebuild itself by investing in smaller footprint stores, a key tenet of its turnaround plan. It didn’t say how many jobs would be impacted, but said workers would be offered severance payments like those allotted employees at Sears Holdings Corp. ahead of its 2018 bankruptcy filing.
