As the Israel-Hamas war intensifies, children are attending pro-Palestine virtual protests on Roblox, the social media platform popular with young people, CNBC reports.
One pro-Palestine demonstration has been visited more than 275,000 times by Roblox users, 60% of whom are 16 or younger and 40% are 12 or younger.
The online videos allow users to march on virtual brick streets lined with Palestinian flags and signs reading, “Solidarity for You Palestine.”
Visitors to the protests have the option of raising a Palestinian flag, a Malaysian flag, or no flag. Pro-Palestinian protests have proliferated in Malaysia, whose prime minister, Anwar Ibrahim, recently criticized Israel’s air strikes in the Gaza Strip.
A Roblox spokesperson confirmed to CBNC that there are multiple pro-Palestinian virtual protest videos on the social media platform.
However, the spokesperson added, “While our Community Standards allow for expressions of solidarity, we do not allow for content that endorses or condones violence, promotes terrorism or hatred against individuals or groups, or calls for supporting a specific political party.”
The spokesperson said Roblox’s team of content moderators is prepared to “take swift action against any content or individuals found to be in violation of our standards.”
