The volume of exchange-traded options traded in the US fell by more than 10 per cent last month compared to a year ago, the first drop in monthly volumes for more than five years.
About 263.4m options contracts were traded in August, down from 294.2m contracts in August 2007 – the first such decline since July 2003 – according to figures released on Tuesday by the Options Industry Council.
