CEO Lewis: Apploi Improves Job Application Process for Both Sides

By    |   Friday, 30 May 2014 09:26 AM EDT

Job searching application Apploi acts as a matching service between job seekers and employers over the Internet on mobile devices and computers.

"It's staggering that such a huge amount of people [more than 47 million] don't have access to computers," Adam Lewis, the company's CEO told Newsmax TV in an exclusive interview.

"They don't have Internet access in their home, and they don't have access to jobs. A lot of these people live in underprivileged communities and can't make it into a city."

So Apploi enables people to apply for jobs nearby on a mobile device. "Everyone's using mobile more than they're using computers, and a lot of the time people who don't have a computer do have access through a phone," Lewis noted. "So Apploi is mobile first."

The company puts iPad kiosks in malls, community centers, libraries and other public places. "So we're really trying to give those people that have never had that access the ability to apply for jobs and also through the Apploi ecosystem learn a skill and understand what jobs and training are available."

Apploi is working with more than 1,000 companies, ranging "from the largest retailers in the world to large global organizations," he said.

"We've got a partnership with the United Nations Office for Project Services. We're working with the largest job center network in the U.S., America Works."

Apploi works well for employers because they learn more about job applicants than in a traditional application, Lewis explained. Applicants can post videos along with their resumes on Apploi.

"We found that companies can review 10 of our applications in the time it would [normally] take to review one," he maintained. "A company can put an interactive scenario on our application where it can be an angry customer, . . . and the candidate has got to respond to that customer on video."

As for job seekers, "it's a much better way to apply," Lewis said. Applications have two components — a standardized one that job seekers can send to every employer, and a personalized one for each.

And with video, "the candidate can actually show themselves, which is a big benefit," he argued. "This really allows people to showcase their skills in a much better way."

In addition, Apploi widens the pool of candidates for companies, Lewis said. And, it gives an opportunity to "people who might not [be good at] that box ticking exercise and say right on paper they're perfect."

Allowing the application to bring the human element back into the equation is "so exciting," Lewis said, adding that Apploi could well become the Match.com for the job industry.
