Several economic achievements were reached during this week's United Nations General Assembly, White House National Economic Council Director Larry Kudlow said Thursday, but they might have been overshadowed by the impeachment inquiry news.

"We got a very good free-trade agreement," Kudlow told Fox News' "Fox & Friends." "By the way it covers agriculture. Our farmers would be able to finally shift stuff to Japan. That always has been a stumbling block. We'll make it easier for them to buy our industrial commodities and our industrial supplies."

Strides were also made in e-commerce, said Kudlow, which will be "huge" because the United States has strong technology operators and "Japan has finally opened the door."

The agreement is "very similar" to the U.S.-Mexico-Canada agreement's digital services plan, marking a "huge breakthrough."

Meanwhile, where the impeachment inquiry is concerned, Kudlow said the transcript of a call between President Donald Trump and Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskiy, shows no quid pro quo.

"You know we met with the Ukrainian president," Kudlow said. "He is a very smart young man, by the way, a real pleasure. (The phone call) was a positive, constructive congratulatory phone call."

The United States, he added, has always intended to send aid to Ukraine, but Trump also wants to be sure Europe will "pony up their fair share. They never quite do."

Trump also knows one of the biggest issues with Ukraine is its history of corruption, Kudlow said, and he "was raising that issue and said by the by, you know, with respect to Vice President (Joe) Biden and his son, there is some unfinished business."

But, added, there was "never any quid pro quo involved," Kudlow insisted.
