Jon Peters, producer of hit movies “Batman” and “Flashdance,” is said to be considering buying Mort Zuckerman’s Daily News.
“For weeks, rumors have circulated that there is a mystery fourth bidder in the fairly tepid auction,”
reports Keith Kelly, media columnist at the New York Post. “More recently, the whispers pointed to Peters.”
Peters first became famous as a celebrity hairdresser who was the inspiration for Warren Beatty's character in “Shampoo.” Peter Guber and Peters partnered to produce hit films like "The Color Purple" before Sony recruited them to run its studio. Guber later fired him.
Zuckerman in February
tapped investment bank Lazard to shop around the Daily News, which is estimated to lose $20 million to $30 million a year.
So far, grocery chain mogul John Catsimatidis, former Billboard co-owner Jimmy Finkelstein and Cablevision head James Dolan have shown interest in the New York newspaper.
Peters declined to comment on the possible purchase, which is expected to close the week of May 18, Kelly reported.
