Home Depot co-founder Ken Langone says that Donald Trump has the "flexibility and the capacity" to be a "great president."

Langone, a supporter of rival Republican Chris Christie, told CNBC that Trump understands business and how to get his way.

"That's a little bit of what we need in America today. We need some leadership," Langone said. "Leadership implies one thing. That you can get people to believe that you can get them to where they want to go," Langone said.

“I think Donald has the flexibility and the capacity to be a great president. I think this guy is so certain of himself that he's going to say every time, ‘Is this going to be the right thing for America where I can endear myself to the American people?’” Langone said.

"The American people are disgusted … [and] fed up" with politics as usual, and Trump's outsider appeal reflects those sentiments, he said.

"He's in fertile ground right now, fertile as it's ever been for somebody out of the political sector," he said.

"And we got to get it right this time. Whether it's Democrat or Republican, we have to get it right. We're in a hell of a mess," he said.

He still believes Christie can win: "I think that Chris has all the attributes to be president."

However, Langone essentially said anyone would be a better president than Hillary Clinton.

“I think her character is terribly lacking. I think she has trouble with the truth,” he said. “I think there is an arrogance there that shocks me … she talks about being for the little people.”

Langone isn't the first business figurehead to talk about Trump occupying the White House.

Carl Icahn recently endorsed his fellow billionaire as the only campaigner speaking out on crucial business and economic concerns.

In a video posted on his new website, Icahn criticized “the dysfunction that is going on both in Washington and the boardrooms of corporate America” and lambasted the U.S. Congress for failing to reform taxes or immigration.

He backed Trump’s calls to strike tax deals to encourage corporations to bring back overseas profits and stay based in the U.S.; to end the carried interest tax discount for hedge fund and private-equity managers; and said the Federal Reserve is overdue in beginning to raise interest rates.

“You have this movement toward a guy like Donald Trump, because you want someone that’s not beholden to an establishment,” Icahn said in the video.

“So we need a president that can move Congress and I think Donald Trump could do it. I disagree with him on certain issues, and certainly would talk to him more, but this is what this country needs — somebody to wake it up.”
