No Democratic Challenger Yet for McKinley's WV Seat

Wednesday, 11 January 2012 11:39 AM EST

Democrats in West Virginia will have to scramble to find a recruit to challenge freshman House Republican David McKinley now that Tim Manchin has decided not to run, according to Politico. Manchin, the cousin of U.S. Sen. Tim Manchin, has announced he will not challenge McKinley.

According to Politico, his decision leaves Mike Oliverio, who lost to McKinley last year, as the only other possible candidate at this point.

But if Oliverio — or any other West Virginia Democrat for that matter — plans to enter the race, they better do it soon, Politico noted,  because the Jan. 28 filing deadline is fast approaching.

Politico reported that McKinley, for his part, “is in strong financial shape, raising $300,000 during the fourth quarter and reporting around $1.1 million cash on hand.”
