Fannie Mae CEO to Step Down

Tuesday, 10 January 2012 05:30 PM EST

Fannie Mae's Chief Executive Michael Williams will step down after a successor is named, the mortgage financing company said on Tuesday.

Williams was appointed CEO in 2009 after the mortgage finance company was seized by the government at the height of the financial crisis.

"I decided the time is right to turn over the reins to a new leader," Williams said in a statement.
