General Electric Co. is cutting 255 jobs from a repair facility in Houston as customers delay or cancel energy projects.

The Boston-based company will keep 400 people at the plant to handle repair turbines used to power drilling rigs and other equipment in oil and gas fields, according to the Houston Chronicle.

“The decision to restructure is a reflection of a dramatic drop-off in customer commitments and orders this year as many oil and gas customers continue to delay projects and decisions,” GE said in a statement. “This was a difficult decision and is in no way a negative reflection of our workforce.”

Houston area manufacturers have cut 25,000 jobs — about one in 10 — since 2014, the newspaper reported. Oil peaked that summer before plunging to a 13-year low earlier this year.
