The bluesy, rock 'n' roll sounds of "Memphis" have found their way to a recording studio.
Producer Sue Frost says the Broadway musical's original cast recording has been made by Delray Records, and details on its national release will be available shortly.
For those who can't wait, the recording will be sold exclusively — starting Friday — at the Shubert Theatre where the musical opened in October. "Memphis" tells the story of a street-smart white disc jockey who brings black music to mainstream, white audiences in the 1950s.
It features music by Bon Jovi keyboard player David Bryan who also co-wrote the lyrics with the show's book writer Joe DiPietro. "Memphis" stars Chad Kimball as the white DJ and Montego Glover as a black club singer with whom he falls in love.
