Barry Diller's IAC/InterActive Corp. will no longer circulate print editions of InStyle and Entertainment Weekly and four other magazines, making them digital only beginning in May,
The Wall Street Journal reports.
The other four publications are EatingWell, Health, Parents and People en Espanol. WSJ said its reporting is based on a memo from Dotdash Meredith CEO Neil Vogel to staff.
The company is also eliminating 200 jobs, less than 5% of Dotdash Meredith's total staff, according to a spokeswoman.
“We have said from the beginning, buying Meredith was about buying brands, not magazines or websites,” Vogel said in his note. “It is not news to anyone that there has been a pronounced shift in readership and advertising from print to digital, and as a result, for a few important brands, print is no longer serving the brand’s core purpose.” Diller's media group acquired Meredith Corp. last year.
WSJ notes how print publications' struggle to attract newsstand and subscription sales, as well as advertising revenue, has become more pronounced with the growth of social media and Big Tech.
