Washington is the best city in which to start a career, according to a study by
WalletHub, a personal finance web site.
Among the metrics it used to compare the nation's 150 largest cities were number of leisure establishments, apartment rents, mating opportunities, starting salaries, number of entry-level jobs and jobs growth.

Denver placed second in the ranking, followed by Irving, Texas; Seattle; Minneapolis; and San Francisco.
Modesto, California, was the worst city, followed by Port St. Lucie, Florida.; Stockton, California; San Bernardino, California; and Akron, Ohio.
San Jose, California, topped the list for starting salaries at $57,000, followed by Washington at $52,000 and San Francisco at $49,000.
Brownsville, Texas, has the lowest starting salary at $21,000, followed by Springfield, Missouri, and Laredo, Texas, at $22,000.
Springfield has the cheapest rent for an apartment at $650 a month, followed by Fort Wayne, Indiana, at $664. San Francisco has the most expensive rent at $1,956, followed by Honolulu at $1,820.
Indeed.com ranked the top 10 entry-level jobs by salary. Construction project engineer took first at $72,000.
It was followed by software engineer at $64,000, sales worker at $59,000, healthcare lab technician at $57,000, manager at $53,000, administrative support person at $38,000, chemistry lab technician at $33,000, installation/maintenance/repair technician at $31,000, accountant at $30,000 and manufacturing worker at $22,000.
