Toyota’s first all electric vehicle is a small SUV that is about the same size of a RAV4. The BZ4X is a solid contender in the growing field of EV SUVs, but some rivals are more exciting on the road. Let's take a closer look at the BZ4x, there are some really unique and cool features that will impress you.
Starting with the power plant, there are two options; the 201 horsepower front-wheel-drive model and 214 hp with all-wheel drive variant. The driving range of 222-252 miles depending on which motor you choose that’s equivalent to a combined fuel economy of 102 MPGe.
Charging times depends on the type of charger you’re using. The 120V wall charger averages up to four miles per hour; the 240V charger will fully charge in about 9.5 hours or the best choice, the DC Fast Charging will charge up to 80% in 30 minutes (FWD) or 60 minutes (AWD).
Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 is standard on all trim levels and includes: Full-Speed Range Dynamic Radar Cruise Control which adjusts speed to maintain a constant distance between the vehicle and the car in front. A Bird's Eye View Camera that gives you a top-down view of the bZ4X and its surroundings for tight parking situations and Lane Tracing Assist are some of the features drivers are seeking.
Inside the BZ4x is a heated steering wheel, heated and ventilated front seats and heated rear seats. The seats are Softex faux-leather upholstery which offers comfortable chairs for your ride.
The technology is very impressive with lots of standard technology and driver assist features. The Digital gauge display and a 12.3-inch central touchscreen include wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto; standard wireless smartphone charging and a Wi-Fi hotspot. The sound system is a nine-speaker JBL stereo system on the Limited trim. One of the coolest features is available on the Limited model and offers a radiant heating element in the lower dash that warms front-seat riders' legs. This replaces a glove box in front of the passenger front seat.
The design of the crossover, boasts edgy styling that sets it apart from Toyota's gasoline-powered SUV. It has a polarizing impression. Personally I like the modern appearance.
Toyota offers a 3-year/36,000-mile basic warranty as well as a 5-year/50,000-mile powertrain warranty and 8 years of coverage for the battery.
The BZ4x includes two years/50,000 miles of roadside assistance and scheduled maintenance plus Toyota's inclusion of a year of free charging at EVgo stations.
Storage is important on any SUV, there is no frunk (front trunk) but there is 27.7 cubic feet of cargo space behind the rear seat (or 25.8 cubic feet when the bZ4X is equipped with the JBL audio system). This is the average amount for the class.
Prices range from $42,000 - $48,780. Take one for a test drive and see for your self.
