Feds to Investigate Drinking Glasses Said to be Tainted

Monday, 22 November 2010 03:00 PM EST

Federal regulators say they have launched an investigation into drinking glasses that lab testing shows have high levels of lead in their colored decorations.

Testing commissioned by The Associated Press revealed that the glasses had lead up to 1,000 times the federal limit for children's products. The glasses depicted comic book and movie characters such as Superman, Wonder Woman and the Tin Man from "The Wizard of Oz."

A spokesman for the U-S Consumer Product Safety Commission said Monday that the agency considers the glasses to be children's products and is currently getting samples for its own testing.

The manufacturer told AP that the glasses passed its testing and that they are targeted to adult collectors.
