LIGNET: Spain Careening Toward a Bailout

Warnings from the Bank of Spain that the Spanish economy is slipping further and faster into depression are the latest pressures on Spanish Prime Minister Mario Rajoy to ask the EU for a formal economic bailout. Despite Rajoy’s recent statements that a bailout is not imminent, the government will probably be forced to ask the EU for aid but will try to time a request to bring the least political fallout.
