Worldwide semiconductor sales rose 1.8 percent in August to $25.7 billion, from July, with PC and wireless related products boosting sales, the Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA) said.
Infrastructure expansion in emerging markets, especially in China and India, would increase spend, SIA said in a statement.
"Concerns about economic conditions in the U.S. and Europe, coupled with seasonal patterns, bear close monitoring. We remain confident in our $290.5 billion forecast, which represents 28.4 percent annual growth for 2010," SIA President Brian Toohey said.
Major chipmakers include Intel, Texas Instruments, Advanced Micro Devices, National Semiconductor, Nvidia, Qualcomm, STMicroelectronics, Samsung Electronics and Hynix Semiconductor .
Shares of bellwether Intel have fallen 21 percent since their 2010 high of $24.37 in April, when the company reported its first-quarter results.
