Canadian Police Make Arrest in Pipeline Bombings

Friday, 08 January 2010 02:41 PM EST

Police have arrested a man in connection to a series of pipeline bombings of oil and gas developments in northeastern British Columbia.

Royal Canadian Mounted Police Insp. Tim Shields said Friday a man in his 50s or 60s was taken into custody on the farm in rural Alberta.

About a dozen officers are now searching the property.

Six EnCana Corp. sites in western Canada have been attacked since October 2008.

The blasts put a spotlight on local concerns over the rapid growth of the industry in the region, particularly projects involving sour gas, which contains the potentially deadly chemical hydrogen sulfide.

No one has been injured in any of the explosions.
