Buffett Railroad’s Coal-Dust Rules to Be Reviewed by U.S. Agency

Tuesday, 22 November 2011 02:01 PM EST

Rules imposed by Warren Buffett’s Burlington Northern Santa Fe on shippers to reduce how much coal dust blows off rail cars operating on its lines will be examined by a U.S. regulator to see if they’re reasonable.

The Surface Transportation Board said the issue of whether the railroad can require coal shippers to use certain measures to limit dust is “of broad interest to the industry.”

The decision was posted today on its website.
