Dell Inc. Chief Executive Officer Michael Dell is stepping up a challenge to Hewlett-Packard Co. in servers and said that his company has made headway building out the unit that caters to business clients.

“We’ve made so much progress in building out our enterprise capabilities,” Dell wrote in a staff memo that was obtained by Bloomberg.

He also said that he’s challenged the team led by Marius Haas to unseat Hewlett-Packard in the server market in fiscal 2014.

Dell is currently seeking to take his company private in a leveraged buyout led by Silver Lake Management LLC. The company is also assessing challenges to that proposal from Blackstone Group LP and billionaire Carl Icahn.
