Shares of Kellogg Co., the maker of breakfast cereals, Pop Tarts and other food, rose the most in almost five years in New York trading Thursday as volume surged.
The shares ended up 6 percent at $66.39 after trading as high as $66.77, marking the biggest intraday gain since April 30, 2009. The stock had risen 2.6 percent this year through Wednesday. Volume Thursday was more than triple the three-month average.
Kellogg, based in Battle Creek, Michigan, was founded more than a 100 years ago and went public in 1952.
