Renters in New York City and the Washington, D.C., area could pay upward of $200 more in rental costs annually if Amazon chooses to split its new headquarters, known as HQ2, between the two cities, Business Insider reports.
The two cities reportedly in talks with Amazon are the Long Island City section of Queens, New York, and the Crystal City area of Arlington, Virginia, The New York Times reported earlier this week.
However, rental costs are projected to be less than if Amazon located in one city, according to a Business Insider analysis based on a study earlier this year by real estate and rental marketplace website Zillow.
In April, Zillow projected added costs to cities under consideration for the new Amazon headquarters, calculating the costs to each locale if the internet giant located there. In an update on Monday, Zillow reported the split across two locations “dilutes its impact on the selected markets.”
