The Internal Revenue Service has 5,000 fewer employees this tax filing season compared with 2011, Commissioner Douglas Shulman will tell a U.S. House committee today.
The IRS used incentives to accelerate workers’ retirements, Shulman said in prepared testimony. About 3,000 of the employees worked in tax enforcement, according to the testimony.
The IRS is seeking $12.8 billion for the fiscal year that starts Oct. 1. That’s an 8 percent increase from this year’s budget.
