Google is taking several steps on its YouTube platform to help protect the integrity of next week's elections and combat the spread of disinformation by slapping a warning label on election-related videos.
In a blog post dated Tuesday, the tech giant outlined the efforts it will take starting on Election Day. Among the actions:
Videos about the election will have a warning label on top of the page that reads, "Results may not be final. See the latest on Google." A button will link to election results from The Associated Press wire service.
As it's already doing, YouTube will "promote links to timely, relevant information towards the top of your YouTube homepage." When polls start to close, the platform will put news organizations' livestreams on its homepage for people to easily find.
The platform will promote what it calls "authoritative" news sources for information about the election.
"Our teams have been working around the clock to make sure we have the systems and policies in place to prevent the abuse of our systems and provide access to authoritative information this election season," the blog post reads. "We remain vigilant, and are committed to maintaining the important balance of openness and responsibility, on Election Day and beyond."
It was already announced in September that Google will block election ads on all of its platforms after polls close on Nov. 3.
