Toyota Motor Corp. Camry and RAV4 vehicles are under investigation by U.S. automobile-safety regulators after reports of electrical fires in driver-side doors.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration announced the inquiry into about 830,000 Camry cars and RAV4 crossover sport-utility vehicles for model year 2007 on its website today.

The agency said it’s received six reports of fires that appear to have started in the power window master switch in the driver-side door.

“Toyota will fully cooperate with the agency in its efforts to investigate these allegations,” Martha Voss, a Washington-based spokeswoman for the Toyota City, Japan-based company, said in an e-mail.

Toyota, seeking its best U.S. sales in four years, said this week it’s seeking to deliver more of its latest model RAV4 crossovers, Tacoma trucks and the SE grade of its new Camry sedan to dealers on stronger demand for the models than anticipated.
