Investment firm Leonard Green & Partners LP is considering an offer to acquire warehouse club operator BJ's Wholesale Club.
Leonard Green, with a 9.3 percent stake in BJ's, says in a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission it is examining confidential information provided by BJ's as it evaluates an offer.
BJ's, in Natick, Mass., said in February it was considering selling itself.
Leonard Green, based in Los Angeles, has made several recent offers on retailers, including a $1.3 billion offer for discount chain 99 Cents Only Stores this month and a $1.6 billion offer for craft store Jo-Ann Stores Inc. It was also part of a group that acquired J. Crew for $3 billion.
Its current retail holdings include stakes in The Container Store, Neiman Marcus and others.
