Friday, 21 February 2014 07:18 AM EST

Dennis Li, the JPMorgan Chase & Co. employee who fell to his death from the roof of the investment bank’s Asia-Pacific headquarters in Hong Kong, was “highly valued,” the bank said.

Li was a full-time employee and was “well regarded” by his colleagues, the bank said in an e-mailed statement. He was an associate in the company’s finance department, spokeswoman Marie Cheung said. He was “not laid off,” she said.

“JPMorgan is deeply saddened by the loss of our colleague,” the bank said in the statement. “Our thoughts and deep sympathies are with his family and friends at this difficult time.”

Li, whose Chinese name is Jun Jie, fell from the roof of Chater House on Feb. 18 and was certified dead at the hospital, according to the Hong Kong police. The building at 8 Connaught Road Central is 30 stories high, with the bank occupying the top 10 floors.
