DreamWorks Animation is firing 170 people at its office in Glendale, California, as the entertainment studio mergers with NBCUniversal after being bought this year by Comcast Corp.

The maker of “Shrek 2” and "Kung Fu Panda 3" two months ago eliminated 200 positions in the corporate office and in its distribution and consumer products operations, according to the San Fernando Business Journal.

The latest round of layoffs includes positions in the DreamWorks film animation group, according to a source familiar with the situation cited by the newspaper.

“Universal Filmed Entertainment is in the process of film slate planning and some staff cuts were due to cancellation of the animated film ‘The Croods 2,’” a source said.

Dreamworks SKG was founded in 1994 by film director and producer Steven Spielberg, former Disney executive Jeffrey Katzenberg and record producer David Geffen.
