MONTEVIDEO, Uruguay (AP) — Uruguay’s 15-year string of center-left governments is on the line as the Broad Front coalition faces a presidential runoff election challenge from a united opposition.

The National Party’s Luis Lacalle Pou lost the presidential runoff five years ago, but he held a distinct single-digit lead over the Broad Front’s Daniel Martínez in polls heading into Sunday’s vote.

Lacalle Pou’s father is a former president and his mother was a senator.

He’s attacked the administration of current President Tabaré Vázquez for a soft economy, rising crime and a growing deficit.

Martínez is a former mayor of Montevideo. He’s been reminding voters of his party’s long-term record of slashing poverty since it came to power in 2005.
