Democrat voters are requesting more mail-in ballots than Republican voters are in swing states, Fox News reports.

Election officials in several key battleground states say they are receiving way more requests from Democrat voters for mail-in ballots over GOP voters.

In North Carolina, election officials reported that more than three times as many Democrats have asked for mail-in ballots compared to Republican voters who have made the request.

In Florida, 47.5% of mail-in ballot requests have come from Democrats, while only 32% of the requests have come from GOP voters, according to Fox News.

The trend is the same in Pennsylvania, where Democrats have made nearly triple the amount of ballot requests of Republicans. In Ohio, about half of the mail-in ballot requests have come from Democrats and 38% have come from Republicans.

Wisconsin election officials report there is a pretty equal split on who is asking for ballots.

Michigan is the only swing state logging more absentee ballot requests from Republicans than Democrats, according to Fox News.

People began requesting mail-in ballots during primary elections amid the coronavirus pandemic. Fox News reports the requests have continued as the presidential election nears.

President Donald Trump has suggested that a mostly mail-in election will be “rigged.”

Some Republicans are fearful that Trump’s stance on mail-in ballots will suppress GOP turnout in swing states.

Former Massachusetts Gov. Bill Weld told Fox News that Trump’s attacks on voting by mail “will suppress Republican turnout in battleground states.”

In states like Florida, Weld noted that “Trump can’t afford to give up such a margin in who’s going to be voting by mail.”

Republican National Committee national press secretary Mandi Merritt told Fox News that Trump supporters tend to prefer to vote in person.

"Our voters are highly motivated by their enthusiasm for President Trump and are going to vote — many just prefer to vote in person either by early voting or on Election Day," Merritt said. "The reality is no one is better at turning out voters than Trump victory, and the Biden campaign simply can't match our ground game."
