Pope Francis may be popular with the masses, but he's been completely disconnected from television since July 15, 1990, when he made a promise to the Virgin Mary that he would not watch it again, NBC News reported.

The populist Pope, who has a member of his security detail, the Swiss Guard, deliver soccer scores to him so he can follow along with his favorite team, Buenos-Aires' San Lorenzo, said in an interview with Argentina's La Voz del Pueblo of television, "it's not for me," NBC News said.

He didn't mention the last program he watched, or the reasons he stopped watching.

The Pope was candid about the burdens of his office, confiding that he misses the ability to go out for a walk and drop into a restaurant for a good pizza. He added that pizza delivery wasn't the same as ordering in person, NBC said.

Francis recounted the day of his election as the new Pope. Once he was announced as the selection of the cardinals, and he later put on his robe, "it was natural again," he told La Voz. "I felt so much peace and said what came from my heart."

Pope Francis, evoking his trademark simplicity, which has captured the fancy of the world, said he hoped to be remembered as simply "a good guy," Breitbart  said of his one-on-one interview with the Spanish-language publication.

"I hope they say: 'He was a good guy who tried to do good.' I have no other aspirations."
