Pakistan Suicide Bomber Kills Anti-Taliban Leader

Saturday, 03 November 2012 08:47 AM EDT

PESHAWAR, Pakistan — Police say a suicide bomber has blown himself up near a vehicle carrying the regional head of an anti-Taliban militia in northwest Pakistan, killing him and five others.

Senior police officer Akhtar Hayyat said several people were also wounded in Saturday's attack in the district of Buner in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.

He says Fateh Khan, who is head of the local anti-Taliban militia, was killed along with three guards and two passers-by.

Buner is believed to be a hiding place for the Pakistani Taliban. It is located near the Swat Valley, where the Taliban last month shot and wounded 14-year-old education activist Malala Yousufzai for criticizing the militant group's behavior when they seized the isolated region in 2008.
