Nigel Farage: Brexit Will Allow US, UK to Be Closer Partners

Fox News' "Your World"

Great Britain's vote last week to leave the European Union will be a positive for American-British relations, as the two strong economic and military powers can make deals directly, rather than going through Brussels, Independence Party leader Nigel Farage told Fox News Channel on Monday.

Members of the "global establishment," including the Bank of England and President Barack Obama's, dire warnings about an exit vote were simply fear tactics and threats that weren't bought by the people, Farage told "Your World" guest host Trish Regan.

Farage waved off any suggestion that the "Brexit" vote would hurt London as an economic center as "rubbish."

"London is not a financial center for Europe; it's a financial center for the world," he said. "Trade is not made by politicians. Trade is not made by bureaucrats. Trade is made by people watching this program. They like a car, they like a bottle of wine. They think the price is right, and they choose to buy it."

The original idea of the European nations banding together to make trade deals made sense, Farage said, but the European Union has morphed into a political union.

"They want to build a United States of Europe," he said. "That's why they have a flag, an anthem, a president, a police force. It wants to build an army which will threaten the role of NATO. Nobody in Europe no one anywhere, has ever given consent for this."
