Lebanon's Hezbollah Says it Won't Give up Its Rockets

BEIRUT (AP) — The head of Lebanon's militant Hezbollah says his government should not give in to diplomatic pressure seeking to strip his group of its rocket arsenal.

Hassan Nasrallah says Saturday that neither threats nor sanctions will force his group to give up its capabilities, including a rocket arsenal that Israel views with concern.

Nasrallah says Lebanon should not succumb to diplomatic pressure because "giving in" would permit Israel to attack Lebanon.

His speech was broadcast on a large screen to supporters in Beirut's southern district.

Nasrallah said his group would respond to any attacks from Israel.

His comments come after Israeli media reported that the Jewish state had asked the Lebanese government through a mediator to act against Hezbollah's rocket factories or it would take military action.
