Jose Cardenas, a top Bush Administration expert on Latin America, told LIGNET in an exclusive interview this week that he does not believe the new president of Venezuela, Nicolas Maduro, will be able to remain in power. Since Maduro took over in March following the death of President Hugo Chavez, there has been a “steady decline” in his popularity, said Cardenas. “I, for one, see great trouble over the next six months in President Maduro trying to hold that country together.”
