Turkey has charged 20 people over the murder of Jamal Khashoggi in Turkey, including two aides to Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, the U.K.'s Daily Mail reported.

Khashoggi, 59, a Saudi Arabia dissident and contributer to The Washington Post, was tortured, murdered and dismembered in October 2018 at the Saudi consulate in Turkey.

Saudi Arabia's deputy intelligence chief Ahmed al-Asiri is considered the "ringleader" and the royal court's media czar Saud al-Qahtani reportedly led the operation and gave orders to a hit team, Istanbul prosecutor's office said in a statement, per the report.

The two were charged with "instigating the deliberate and monstrous killing, causing torment," along with 18 other suspects who all face life in prison, the Mail reported.

Arrests warrants have been issued to all 20, none of whom are currently in Turkey, and the trial would be conducted in absentia.

Among them are intelligence operative Maher Mutreb, forensic expert Salah al-Tubaigy, and Fahad al-Balawi, a member of the Saudi royal guard.
