Sen. Ron Johnson: Obama 'Utterly Ineffective' Handling Iran

By    |   Wednesday, 27 February 2013 12:42 PM EST

Sen. Ron Johnson charges that President Obama has been “woefully wrong” in his handling of the Iranian regime and its efforts to secure nuclear weapons.

Secretary of State John Kerry says there’s still a diplomatic path to a settlement with Iran even though the Obama administration has tried diplomacy with Iran for the last four years without success.

Asked if he agrees with Kerry, the Wisconsin Republican tells Newsmax TV: “Obviously we all hope that there’s a diplomatic path. We all hope that the Iranian government will come to their senses. There’s no reason for them to be developing a nuclear weapons program.

“But what this president has done has been utterly ineffective. Right out of the blocks, when you had the stolen elections, when those freedom fighters or freedom seekers in Iran were crying out for at least some words of support, this president was basically AWOL for a couple of weeks. He wouldn’t even support the young people trying to highlight the fact that that was a stolen election.

“And then he also unilaterally removed the missile defense shield out of the Czech Republic and Poland.

“So this president has been woefully wrong in his handling of Iran. We have toughened sanctions. But unfortunately we have President Obama in the position of commander in chief right now, and I’m highly concerned about his policy toward Iran in terms of being able to prevent [development of nuclear weapons].”
