Iran: White House Claims on Nuke Deal Untrue, Meant for Domestic Consumption

Claims being made by the Obama administration about the success of the West's nuclear deal with Iran are untrue and being made simply to placate Americans, Iranian officials say.

"The remarks by the western officials are ambiguous comments which are merely uttered for domestic use and therefore, we should say that there is no ambiguity in this (nuclear) agreement," said Hamid Baeidinejad, director general for political affairs at the Iranian Foreign Ministry and nuclear negotiator on Iranian state-run radio last week.

Baeidinejad, one of Iran's negotiators, was quoted by the Fars News Agency,  which is run by the government.

The statement is familiar, though typically made in this country by members of the Obama administration who say Iranian officials are the ones making statements for the domestic consumption of their own people.

Congress has 60 days since the announcement last month to approve the deal that delays Iran's nuclear program while freeing up frozen assets and easing sanctions on Iran. The deal also bars American inspectors from the Iranian nuclear sites. The Iranian parliament is undergoing the same process.

White House officials are urging Congress to pass the deal, but Baeidinejad said they are misleading Americans in order to "calm opponents in the Congress and Zionist lobbies to soothe the internal conditions prevailing over debates on the nuclear agreement in that country," Fars reported.

"The Iranian government is standing strong on the path of (implementing) the agreement and we will remain committed to our undertakings as long as the other side remains loyal to its obligations, The Washington Free Beacon quoted the Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.

"This agreement is not against any country and our cooperation and consultations to settle the regional problems, including fight against terrorism, humanitarian aids, and materialization of nations’ demands can prove it," Rouhani said.
