IDF: Air Force Will Continue Attack In 'Powerful Way'

By    |   Tuesday, 01 October 2024 04:05 PM EDT

The Israeli Defense Force put Iran on notice Tuesday, saying in an X post, "There is no damage to the competence of the Air Force and it will continue to attack tonight in the Middle East in a powerful way."

The warning comes after Iran launched a missile attack against Israel on Tuesday to retaliate for Israeli military operations against Hezbollah, an Iran-backed militant group based in Lebanon.

The attack mostly targeted Tel Aviv, which houses the IDF's headquarters and Nevatim Air Base. The Israeli military said it intercepted a "large number" of the nearly 200 ballistic missiles Iran launched in the barrage.

IDF spokesman Daniel Hagari said in a televised address that the attack "will have consequences" and noted that the country remains vigilant. Hagari said, "We are on heightened alert on defense and offensive, we will protect the citizens of Israel." He added, "We have plans, and we will act in the time and place that we choose."

U.S. National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan said Iran's attack appeared to have been "defeated and ineffective," but that the Biden administration was still monitoring a "fluid" situation.

In a White House press briefing, Sullivan added, "There will be severe consequences for this attack and we will work with Israel to make that the case."
