French officials told ABC news two civil security helicopters dropped rescue personnel over every car to open the roof hatches, release the skiers and lower them down to safety. The incident happened at the Chamrousse resort.

It took nearly two hours to bring everyone down, according to ABC.

The gondola cars run 82 feet above the ground.
