Wednesday, 04 November 2015 01:27 PM

MADRID (AP) — Spanish police say they have detained two members of the notorious Pink Panthers gang of jewel thieves and recovered more than 1 million euros ($1.1 million) in stolen goods.

The Civil Guard says in a statement that all the stolen items were taken from a jewelry store on the island of Fuerteventura in the Canary Islands archipelago off the west coast of Africa.

The statement Wednesday had no information about the suspects or when they were arrested.

The Pink Panthers network has been blamed for a series of thefts that Interpol says have netted more than 330 million euros since 1999.

The Civil Guard says a news conference Thursday on the island of Gran Canaria will provide more information about the suspects and the recovered goods.
