An Emmanuel Macron Bastille Day assassination plot has been foiled after the man responsible was arrested by French police and charged last week.

The suspect, a 23-year-old Frenchman whose name has not been released, was allegedly planning to kill the newly elected French president during a July 14 parade down Paris' Champs-Élysées, according to CNN. President Donald Trump is scheduled to be a guest of honor at the event.

The man in question is a "self-described nationalist" who also spoke of harming "Muslims, Jews, blacks, and homosexuals," according to The Guardian.

He was arrested at his home Wednesday after reportedly discussing buying a gun in a chat room associated with a video game. Some of the chat room's users then alerted police, The Guardian noted.

Police also discovered that the man had surfed the web looking for possible targets while plotting the attack.

He has been charged with plotting to commit a terrorist act.

According to public service radio broadcaster France Info, the man was previously convicted of terror-related activity last year, as reported by CNN.

The alleged assassination plot comes a year after 86 people were killed in a truck-ramming attack on Bastille Day in Nice, France.
