Ron Dermer, the Israeli ambassador to the United States, angered some people Sunday with a Super Bowl tweet that had nothing to do with team loyalty.
Dermer's tweet was a not-at-all-veiled reference to House Speaker John Boehne's
invitation for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to address a joint session of Congress on the Iran nuclear talks.
Dermer reportedly helped broker the deal, which has been criticized by Democrats for breaching protocol because the White House was not informed or consulted. President Barack Obama has opted not to meet with Netanyahu when he arrives in March.
For his part, Dermer explained his reason for picking the Pats:
But Twitter critics didn't care about the football part of Dermer's tweet, instead, jumping on his role in the Netanyahu speech.
If Dermer was fazed by the critics, he didn't show it, posting another Tweet about his hometown Miami Dolphins:
