China has made anal COVID-19 swabs required for foreign travelers arriving there, a report said Wednesday, according to the New York Post.
It's Beijing's contention that such tests provides a higher degree of accuracy than other screening methods, reports say.
To facilitate the safety protocol, there will be testing hubs in Beijing and Shanghai airports, said the Post's report.
Li Tongzeng, a respiratory disease medic, was quoted as saying the anal swabs are better because virus traces stay longer in fecal samples than they do in other parts of the body.
The Post said Japan had asked China to stop performing the exams on their citizens when they arrive due to the mental anguish such testing can cause.
