Concerned about bearing the brunt of the Iranian retaliation, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told his Security Cabinet the killing of Gen. Qassem Soleimani was solely the act of the U.S., two sources told Axios.

Netanyahu has issued a gag order on his Cabinet in commenting on the killing of Soleimani in the media in attempt to keep the target of retaliation off Israel, according to the report.

"The killing of Soleimani is a U.S. event, not an Israeli event, and we should stay out of it," Netanyahu told his Cabinet, two ministers told Axios.

Netanyahu is permitting his Cabinet ministers to share their general support for the U.S. and its right to defense, per the sources.

"Israel stayed in a distance from the incident," ministers told Axios, expecting a retaliation on Israel targets to be "low" in probability, according to Axios.

The plan for retaliation of Soleimani's killing will commence Tuesday, when the three-day mourning period expires, intelligence officials told the Israeli Cabinet, per the report.
