Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu charged Thursday that Iran is hiding a "secret atomic warehouse" in Tehran – and blasted European countries for turning a blind eye to the nuclear activity.
According to the Associated Press, Netanyahu presented maps and photos of the secret activity at a warehouse concealed as a rug-cleaning operation in the Turquzabad district of Tehran.
Netanyahu said Israel has shared information about this site with the International Atomic Energy Agency and some intelligence agencies.
The startling announcement came at the United Nations General Assembly in New York, where Netanyahu also trashed the 2015 Iranian nuclear accord, claiming it’s being used for “storing massive amounts of equipment and materiel from Iran’s secret weapons program,” the AP reported.
He also condemned European nations for “appeasing” Iran by trying to renew trade despite the nuclear activity.
Invoking historical European maneuvering in the Middle East, Netanyahu laced into Europe’s leaders for sticking to the 2015 Iranian nuclear accord, which allows for a lifting of sanctions in exchange for curbing Iran’s nuclear activities, the AP reported.
“Have these European leaders learned nothing from history? Will they ever wake up?” he asked, the AP reported.
President Donald Trump pulled the United States out of the multi-national nuclear deal and has begun reimposing sanctions on Tehran.
