KAMPALA, Uganda (AP) — A lawyer for Uganda's pop star turned government critic Bobi Wine says his client has "a kidney problem" that needs urgent medical attention abroad.
Medard Sseggona told The Associated Press Wednesday that a medical report produced Tuesday confirmed "the suspicion of a kidney problem" now afflicting his client, whose real name is Kyagulanyi Ssentamu.
He said Ssentamu, being treated at a private facility in the capital, also reported that in detention "they squeezed his manhood."
Ssentamu, through his lawyers and colleagues, has alleged severe torture at the hands of security personnel after his arrest on Aug, 14.
The government denies the torture allegations.
Ssentamu is out on bail after being charged with treason for his alleged role in an incident in which the presidential motorcade was pelted with stones.
