Vice President Mike Pence on Sunday said he and President Donald Trump are "hopeful" Russia will alter its aggressive behavior toward the nations of eastern Europe, The Hill reported.

Pence made the remarks shortly after arriving in Estonia on his first stop during a trip to the Baltic nations of Eastern Europe. He will also travel to Georgia and Montenegro, meeting with the presidents of the three countries to reassure NATO allies that the United States will support them.

"The president has made it very clear that Russia's destabilizing activities and support for rogue regimes and its activities in Ukraine are unacceptable. The president made it clear that very soon he will sign sanctions from the Congress to reinforce that," Pence told Fox News in Estonia.

"But at the same time as we make our intentions clear that we expect Russian behavior to change, the president and I remain very hopeful that we'll see very different behavior from the Russian government," he added.

Trump is expected to sign financial sanctions against Russia passed by Congress, and international observers are watching to see how Russian President Vladimir Putin will respond. Putin has already ordered 755 U.S. diplomats to leave the country, The New York Times reported Sunday.
